Types Of Airway Equipment

Difficult airway equipment is designed to make breathing easier with the help of a tube that goes around the patient's throat. It can also help save a patient in case of respiratory failure. There are a number of airway equipment types that can be difficult to use, and some patients may require specialized devices in order to breathe.

Here are five of the most difficult airway apparatus  types to use:

1. The endotracheal tube (ETT) is the most common type of airway equipment used in anesthesia and surgery. It's a long, thin tube inserted into the windpipe (trachea) to allow breathing. ETTs can be hard to insert and remove, especially if the patient is unconscious or sedated.

2. The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is a type of breathing device used during intubation (the insertion of an ETT or other airway device into the lungs). It's a helmet-like device that covers the entire mouth and nose, with openings at the top for ventilation and speech. LMA users must learn how to use it correctly in order to avoid obstructing their breathing or injuring their throat.

3. The ventilator is a machine that helps patients breathe by providing them with oxygen and other gasses. Ventilators can be hard to operate, especially if the patient is unresponsive or has low blood pressure.

4. The tracheostomy tube (TST) is a short, metal tube inserted through an opening in the neck near the windpipe into the lungs so that patients can breathe independently. TSTs can be difficult to insert and  remove, and they can cause pain and infection if not properly cleaned.

5. The endotracheal tube LA (ETT-LA) is a specialized type of ETT that's designed for use in difficult airways, such as those near the vocal cords or in patients with a paralyzed airway.
